Community Inclusion

Everyone deserves an opportunity to live in their community near their family, friends, and support system. People with disabilities may not be able to do that without help. Medicaid waivers allow people with disabilities and chronic conditions to receive care in their homes and communities. Without the waivers, some people may not be able to live at home and would need to live in long-term care facilities, hospitals, or intermediate care facilities – away from their families or communities. A 2018 change in Ohio law made it very difficult for those with developmental disabilities to obtain waivers and keep their eligible status. ABLE and LAWO attorneys and paralegals uphold the rights of people with disabilities throughout our service area so they can remain in their communities and advocate for changes to Ohio’s waiver program to make them more accessible.
