LAWO Announces New Executive Director
Legal Aid of Western Ohio, Inc. (LAWO) Names Brent Thompson as New Executive Director
TOLEDO, OH. Legal Aid of Western Ohio, Inc. (LAWO) announces Brent Thompson as its new Executive Director.
Thompson has over twenty years of experience in civil legal aid and public interest law, with a strong record of expanding access to justice, strengthening community partnerships, and building sustainable organizations. His background supports LAWO’s mission to serve vulnerable and underserved populations.
Most recently, Thompson was Executive Director of Grants and Sponsored Programs at Minnesota State University Moorhead, overseeing grant initiatives that supported institutional growth and community impact. Previously, he led the Legal Aid Service of Broward County, one of Florida’s largest legal aid organizations, managing programs for children, survivors of violence, immigrants, seniors, veterans, and individuals experiencing homelessness.
"Legal aid plays a critical role in ensuring fairness, stability, and opportunity for people facing some of life's most difficult challenges," Thompson shared upon accepting the role. "I am honored to join Legal Aid of Western Ohio and look forward to working alongside the board, staff, community partners, and clients to build on the organization's strong foundation and continue expanding access to justice throughout the region."
