CURRENT STATUS: ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS The purpose of the Pro Bono Legal Corps Project is to increase opportunities for law students to participate in pro bono activities while also increasing support and assistance for volunteer attorneys in ABLE and LAWO's 32-county service area. The Member will cultivate relations with law school students and faculty, work with legal aid staff, volunteer lawyers, government leaders, court personnel, judges, and bar leaders in an effort to raise awareness and visibility of pro bono work while expanding opportunities for participation. The Member will work with law schools to recruit and train students; work with legal aid staff on special rural pro bono projects; provide referrals and support to volunteer lawyers; develop community education and pro se materials; and provide direct legal assistance to low income clients.
This is a one-year position funded through AmeriCorps and the Ohio Community Service Council with a possible renewal for one additional year. One position will be located in Toledo and one position in Dayton. |

 A project through the Ohio Community Service Council, 22 AmeriCorps attorneys located throughout ABLE and LAWO’s 32-county service area will provide direct legal representation to clients, as well as offer legal information, education, and outreach to help low-income individuals maintain or acquire safe and affordable housing. These attorneys will also work with community organizations to develop projects designed to expand the availability of affordable housing. Positions will be out of offices located in Dayton, Defiance, and Toledo. This is a collaborative project between the partner law firms of Advocates for Basic Legal Equality, Inc. (ABLE) and Legal Aid of Western Ohio, Inc. (LAWO). |
